A little about me:
I’m a GP and I LOVE my job.
I’m based in Sydney, but I’m a country girl at heart.
I believe access is the biggest barrier we have when it comes to health.
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Medicine – University of Newcastle
- Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners
- Diploma of Child and Family Health – Sydney University
Growing up in rural Australia, I experienced the lack of access to healthcare first hand. As a kid I had a talent for dislocating my elbow. With the nearest GP 200 kilometers away and often booked out a month in advance, this talent was not ideal! The dislocations were so frequent that our family GP taught my Dad how to relocate it at home. This DIY procedure was successful the first four times. The fifth...not so much. Dad tried his usual trick– but it turned out my elbow was actually broken!
Yep. Ouch.
So I think I became a GP because my Dad wasn’t one…..
My sidestep into the media came about from my passion to breakdown the barriers that impede access healthcare.
I wanted to facilitate access reliable, holistic and practical health information for everyone - no matter your postcode.
My vision and approach is built on three principles: Knowledge. Community. Well-being.
There is nothing more powerful than knowledge and I believe the knowledge we have is best shared.
Community is a concept that seems to be disappearing. This is a platform to build our own online community. An open, collaborative community of informed and empowered individuals who support and celebrate one another.
Well-being is our driving force. If we don’t have our health, we don’t have anything at all.
